The path from misery to happiness often comes with a trail of misunderstood choices and concealed feelings.
At times I’m haunted by my past with memories ruminating through my mind. I created Conflicted as a sculptural
journal to reveal feelings that were not always understood by outsiders or even myself.
Carving repeating words on each piece of paper, the cyclical thinking patterns that confine me during depression are revealed, the physical weight of the piece contradicting the weight of the words. Keeping the past contained in wax, I thought I was protecting myself from pain, only to find I was keeping it within me.
I DO
I DON’T
DID YOU?
ADDICT
INNOCENCE
NAÏVE
REGRET
WHAT DID I DO?
ENABLE
LIES
BROKEN
DECEIT
I MADE A CHOICE
HARM
IGNORE
THIS ISN’T LOVE
SELFISH
WHAT FUTURE?
A CHILD
PROTECT
WHAT DO I DO
PRAY
TRUTH
MAKE A NEW WAY
ESCAPE
TO HEAL
BOUNDARIES
FORGIVE
I SURVIVED
